Maggotar är verkligen det äckligaste som finns
Idag gjorde vi klart de där hovarna som vi började på häromdagen. Min blev nog ganska bra, fast jag tror inte att jag kunde göra om det utan hjälp. Det krävs präktigt med övning för det här, ska ni veta. Men jag tror att jag förstått lite mer vilken form man letar efter i alla fall, och det är både roligt och nyttigt att kunna.
När hovarna var färdigtrimmade skulle vi begrava dem. Det gör husmor med alla sina kadaverhovar – eller “dead feet” som de heter då vi talar med de engelska au pairerna – för att köttet ska multna bort och benet bli rent. Sen kan man ta upp dem och studera benställningen, hur hovarnas form påverkat benen inne i kroppen och så vidare. Detta är inte så fräscht, men förvisso naturligt och i alla fall lärorikt. Då kan man få bekräftat eller dementerat teorierna man haft utifrån hovens utseende.
Hovarna vi verkat är alltså inte några konstgjorda grejer utan the real deal. Avkapade ben från riktiga (om än döda) hästar. Det gick ju an med själva hoven, den var som på en levande häst. Men resten av den där stumpen var inte rolig. Under tiden vi verkade hade vi det räliga inplastat, men när vi skulle gräva ner dem kunde ju inte plasten följa med. Du milde, så äckligt.
Efteråt hade vi dead feet på allt. Dead feet gloves och dead feet trousers och dead feet shoes. Api hade till och med en dead feet hand, whatever that is… Egentligen hade jag mest lust att elda upp rasket och själv duscha i handsprit, men sånt går ju inte an. Jag kommer förmodligen få ha mina dead feet-ridbyxor imorgon också.
