Tredje dagen på återvisit i Frankrike – hoof trimming

Author: Woho! Idag har jag verkat mitt livs första hov. Det var så SJUKT intressant!
Husmor har sina hästar barfota enligt den s k Strasser-metoden. Hon är utbildad SHP, Strasser Hoofcare Professional, och har verkat en massa hel massa hovar. I fjol genomgick jag och Emma en grundkurs i detta sätt att hålla hästar, men vi kunde tyvärr inte slutföra den eftersom vi inte kunde få tag på slakthovar till den praktiska delen. Men nu fanns det alltså hovar att få, och Husmor hade en lektion med mig och Api.
Det är mycket att tänka på: linjer, proportioner och mått som ska stämma osv. Men oj vad man lär sig! Jag har ju sett Husmor och hennes göteborgskollega verka ett antal gånger, läst boken, gått en grundkurs, studerat modeller och itusågade hovar och ben, hört föreläsningar och deltagit i otaliga diskussioner, men när man får göra det med sina egna händer ger det en helt ny förståelse för tillämpningen.
Hoven jag verkade var från en ardenner eller något liknande, stor och grund, medan Api fick en som var mindre och mer konkav. Förmodligen var “min” häst bara ett köttdjur, som inte blev så väl omhändertaget. Hoven var skev och böjd och sprucken. Apis, å andra sidan, var nog mer av en ridhäst, och hade hovar som för ett ovant öga skulle se ganska bra ut. Jag själv skulle i alla fall för ett par år sen ha sagt att de var fina. Men den hade för höga hälar och hörnstöd (detta är SÅ otroligt vanligt), vilket gör att allting inne i hoven blir klämt och hovmekanismen hindras mm (kan utvecklas i evighet, här finns lite). En sådan hov är mycket ömtålig, och det är lätt att komma för djupt. Det vill till att hålla reda på kniven!
Vi tog kläder ur Lådan. Där finns alla gamla lasar som ratats då hemvändande au pairer fyllt sina väskor med souvenirer och inte får plats med alla kläder. Det är alltså inte sommarkollektionen 2010 vi talar om. Snarare vårvinter -96. Gråmelerat for life. Men det duger att hantera kadaver med.
